A Double‐Edged Sword: Protective and Harmful Effects of International Students' Group Identification<sup>1</sup>

This study investigates how international students' identification with various social groups to which they belong influences their (mal)adjustment the host country. One hundred and forty-three students were asked report people from home country, students, foreign people, as well perceived discrimination, homesickness, loneliness. The results revealed more harmful effects of group than protective effects. Identification country was positively associated but slightly buffered effect discrimination on negatively loneliness, strengthened homesickness. loneliness also homesickness
